Bengaluru: Happiest Minds says it wants to ensure all its employees can be deployed in the generative AI business unit in the next one year. This unit was set up in October 2023 and the CTO of the company, Sridhar Mantha, was made its CEO. Executive vice-chairman Joseph Anantharaju told TOI that 100 employees have been moved to this business unit.

The IT firm, founded by Ashok Soota, has a little over 5,000 employees.

In the December quarter, Happiest Minds bagged six projects in the generative AI space after having discussions with 30 prospective clients, Anantharaju said.

“Generative AI is an engine of growth for us. Clients are currently looking at mostly a consulting and collaborative role as to what they can do with generative AI. They themselves are not clear what should be done and what can be done,” he said. The company, like its peers, reported muted numbers for the third quarter of FY24 and is looking to better its margins by improving employee utilisation. 200 freshers were onboarded in September and became billable in December, the firm said. 100 more freshers are undergoing training.

The company hopes to report better revenues in the March quarter with more billable dates for its resources. Q3 is usually a weak quarter for IT companies with clients sending offshore resources on a furlough.
