That was the time, Robo, (Enthiran, in Tamil) was being released all over India. While the Super star was not new to the Hindi world, he was not exactly Bollywood main stream actor. And Aishwarya Rai was the reigning queen of Hindi movie world. During the press conference, just before the release, Mr. Rajnikanth, makes his concluding remarks.
The superstar does not wear make-up in public – does so only onscreen. On the screen, he is a young man, smashing and smart and all powerful. Off screen, he is humble, un assuming, shy and dressed very simply. He does not hide the fact that he is above sixty, bald, dark and a grandfather. He still carries any function with his body language and persona. Irrespective of his looks, all eyes in any crowd are on him – that’s the magic of Rajni, especially in Tamil Nadu.
Perhaps, it may not be so in the north – perhaps he was a bit of mystery. He does not look like a typical hero, but still the biggest star India has ever seen and Aishwarya Rai Bachan, the ex-Miss World is cast opposite him.
And he tells this little ‘story’. He calls it a ‘fact’, but I have some doubts. It is unbelievable that someone is there in Bangalore, who calls him by first name and still do not know he is a hero. My mother, who had not seen a movie for 40 years, knew him very well. That’s the reach of Rajni.
