New Delhi: Tata Steel, Larsen & Toubro, Vedanta, Ceat and Mphasis are among companies seeking to advance diversity and inclusion (D&I) by hiring more transgender employees. Most of them started doing so in 2022, company executives told ET.

These are baby steps, to be sure.

In 2022, Tata Steel launched a new recruitment model – Queerious, a case study competition in which LGBTQIA+ talent across India business and tech schools participated. The top 10 students were offered internships with four getting pre-placement offers (PPOs). “In 2023, we will recruit more LGBTQIA+ students through this route,” said a Tata Steel spokesperson.
