Bharti Airtel is planning a twofold increase in campus hiring from tier 1, 2 and 3 colleges this year underscoring the positive business outlook in the telecom sector. The New Delhi-based company is also doubling the number of campuses it will target this fiscal.

“This year, Airtel will add over 700 campus hires from 100 plus colleges across the country to drive growth across our multiple lines of business – Mobility, Airtel Business, Homes, Airtel Digital and Nxtra by Airtel,” Amrita Padda, chief people officer, Bharti Airtel, told ET.

The planned 700 campus hirings this year will be through a mix of final placement and PPOs (or pre-placement offers that are given once the young talent from campuses finish their internship programmes). This comes at a time when startups and IT companies, typical favourites at campuses, are hesitant to hire new talent due to a funding crunch and subdued business environment globally.

Among the new colleges, Airtel is visiting Banasthali Vidyapith (Rajasthan), Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women, NMIMS Bengaluru, and Goa Institute of Management.
